Abstract

In light of the major shift towards a knowledge-based economy, higher education institutions play a major role in the production and dissemination of knowledge, and in building scientific research competencies in order to achieve national development. The twentieth century was called the century of industry, but the twenty-first century is undoubtedly the century of knowledge because it is based on knowledge, and this means that tomorrow's societies are built on it. In the past, land, labor, and capital were the basis of the economy, but now a new intruder has entered, which is knowledge based on human resources and the development of the human element, based on creativity and intelligence, which requires the support of human resources as the basis for inclusive development based on the knowledge economy. Attention was drawn to highlighting the second function of the university institution in light of the knowledge-based economy in general and the ethical component of scientific research in particular because it has a significant role as one of the dimensions of investment in the intellectual capital of that institution. The current research paper highlights the role of university in the knowledge economy, scientific research and the problem of integrity, and finally the requirements of scientific research in knowledge-based economy.

Soad Ahmed Abdallah, Professor of Microbiology. Her areas of expertise are Water Bacteriology, Medical Bacteriology and Food Bacteriology. She has 32 published researches in International, regional and local reputable journals. Moreover. She is an Editor at Aperito Journal of Bacteriology, Virology and Parasitology as well as a reviewer at Journal of Food Science and Technology, African Journal of Microbiology Research and BMC Public Health. She is a member at “American Society for Microbiology”. She is the head of Faculty Research Ethics Committee.
